A Passion for Life: Welcome

The lead article in a popular magazine recently announced ‘50 Ways to improve your life’. I turned to the article with great gusto but was completely underwhelmed by the recommendations- get a new toothbrush, learn to speak Russian, eat your own spinach, unscrew a bottle of wine (not even a suggestion to drink it as well), switch to a push mower and so on. Not exactly earth-shattering stuff.

But the headline strikes a chord with us. We all want to improve our life. To make it more comfortable, more exciting, more affluent, more relaxing, more sociable, more challenging, more whatever. It reflects the fact that every one of us is seeking some meaning and purpose in life beyond what we presently have.

It is interesting that when Jesus Christ walked this earth and drew  thousands to hear His teaching, He didn’t tell them how to improve their lives. He didn’t dispense pearls of wisdom for making more of life. He actually told them that they needed life!

A Passion for Life is a week long festival during which we will be celebrating the life that Jesus Christ says that we need and that He came to freely offer to us all.

Over the following pages you’ll find out about the events taking place during A Passion for Life. There is something for everyone–Gospel Choir, Men’s Sports Quiz, Children’s Holiday Bible Club, Women’s Jewellery Making and much more. The reason for the variety of events is that everyone needs life! If you are interested in attending any of the events then you’ll find details and how to attend.

On behalf of Ashford Congregational Church I want to welcome you to A Passion for Life and I hope that you will encounter personally the life that Jesus Christ uniquely offers.

God bless

Pastor Keith Wilson
